The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) sets industry recognized standards for electrical equipment enclosures, categorized by 13 specific 'types.' A type 4X emergency light is rated for interior or exterior uses, providing an additional level of protection against corrosion and external ice formation.
NEMA 4X emergency lights are designed with weatherproof material and are completely sealed to lock out moisture. Besides its hardened exterior, these emergency lighting fixtures will provide the same 90 minutes of illumination required by indoor fixtures during a power failure.
NEMA 4X emergency lighting fixtures can be installed on any non-flammable surface in any outdoor location prone to rain, sleet, snow or other harsh weather. They are also ideal for indoor washdown locations or in areas where emergency sprinkler systems might saturate an emergency light.
The NEL4 has a corrosion-resistant fiberglass housing and has a fully gasketed access panel that keeps an airtight seal over the internal electronics. Lamp heads are molded from high impact thermoplastic and can be fitted with a third remote head. They come in a standard industrial gray finish.
The NEMA 4X emergency light runs off of building AC power during normal operation and uses its internal sealed lead-calcium battery to energize the lamp heads after a power failure.
Two fully directional PAR36, 8.0-watt lamp heads are standard. A third remote head may be added or all lights can be removed to utilize the body as a power source for other units.
Other lamp wattages available: 8, 12, 18, 25, and 30.
Standard power source is a 6-volt, 27-watt sealed lead calcium battery, though higher capacity cells are available. Average lifespan is 3 to 5 years.
A nickel cadmium battery option increases efficiency and extends lifespan to 5-7 years.
Self-testing - An auto-testing feature that almost eliminates monthly and yearly maintenance of the unit.
Nickel Cadmium Battery - Ni-Cad batteries have a 5-7 year lifespan and decrease shipping weight.
Voltmeter - A visual readout of the voltage condition/level of the battery.
Ammeter - A visual display of how much power is consumed by the unit at any given time.
Time-Delay - Good for installations that have fluorescent and HID general lighting installed. This keeps emergency lights illuminated for a period (usually 15 mintues) after AC power is restored since fluorescent and HID lighting can take 10-15 minutes to reach full brightness again.
Internal Battery Heater - For freezing environments, the internal battery heater option will allow the emergency light and its battery backup system to function properly even when temperatures drop below 32 F. Please specify 120 or 277v AC connection.
Cord Set - For plugging your light into any standard 120v AC outlet. This eliminates the need for an electrician to hardwire the unit.
