As you browse our extensive catalog of emergency lighting and exit signs, you'll notice a number of all-weather and waterproof models that have optional battery heating units. These thermostatically activated battery warmers encase the nickel cadmium battery within the exit sign fixture, maintaining a nominal operating temperature in conditions as low as -4° fahrenheit.
However, as you go into the Great White North of the United States and Canada, temperatures can regularly drop far lower than -4° during the winter. For these locations, our manufacturers have developed the CWX series of cold weather exit signs.

Application
Cold weather exit signs look almost identical to indoor thermoplastic units, but can be used in a number of harsh environments both indoors and outdoors.

- Close to high-traffic egress doors that lead to cold weather exteriors

Exterior Specifications
Cold weather exit signs have a robust polyvinyl chloride body that will not dent, flake, rust or corrode. A clear vandal-resistant polycarbonate lens protects the 'exit' face and is lined with a gasket, completely sealing the exit sign and forming a watertight enclosure around the circuits, battery and LED strip.
Cold weather exit signs are fastened with stainless steel screws that require a tool with a unique bit to loosen. Combined with the shatter-proof polycarbonate visor, these cold weather exit signs are quite tamper proof.

NEMA 4X Rating - the manufacturer will subject the unit to a series of grueling tests to ensure its survivability in sub-freezing temperatures and that it will provide a level of protection against corrosion.
Alarm Activated Flasher - the unit will detect klaxons and strobe its lettering to increase the exit sign's visibility during an emergency.
