HZX style exit signs are available in Class 1 Division 1 and Class 1 Division 2 styles. These hazardous location exit signs must be installed in locations where explosive gas and vapors are concentrated in the atmosphere and can be exploded if exposed to an electrical spark. These and other explosion proof exit signs are hermetically sealed to prevent their circuitry from causing such a disaster.
Divisions denote the likelihood of such gases being present during day-to-day operations. Division 1 is the most serious environment, as these gases are always present. Division 2 areas don't usually contain such materials, though sudden introduction could occur at any time.
Hazardous location exit signs are built with .420'' thick die-cast aluminum housing. The 'exit' lettering is protected by a clear shatter-resistant polycarbonate faceplate and stainless steel screws. Unit is flame and impact-resistant. Their airtight construction also makes this design an all-weather exit sign, especially when paired with the optional battery heater.
Hazardous location exit signs are lit by tiny, energy efficient LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) that come in red or green options and use only 5 watts of electricity. These models include an automated self-diagnostic that greatly reduces maintenance time and cost. An LED display gives a visual readout of the unit's battery and overall readiness.
Nickel Cadmium (NiCad) battery provides 90 minutes of emergency lighting, with an expected lifespan of 5-7 years.
AC-only models have no battery at all and are available for facilites with external emergency battery power.
PARTS - Three-year warranty on parts
BATTERY - four-year prorated warranty on lead calcium battery, five-year for nickel cadmium
Periodic testing must be performed at monthly and yearly intervals if the self-diagnostic option is waived. This ensures the lamps and battery will work properly during a power failure.
8-10 year expected lifespan. Replacement components are available.
Internal Battery Heater - The battery heater option enables the battery backup to operate in below-freezing temperatures.
Self-Diagnostic - This option drastically reduces maintenance needs. An LED display gives constant status reports on the unit.
